Metal Letters

Jonsigns have the facility to digitally control cutting of various materials such as mirror polished stainless steel, dull polished steel, aluminium and brass. Along with our skilled metal-working staff, and powder coating options; we can produce your perfect lettering!

Some common fabrication methods and applications are detailed below;

The required material is accurately cut from our digital drawings, either by water-jet cutter or CNC machine.

The result is your lettering/shape, which is then hand-processed to remove any burrs.

Once prepared, the shapes can then be further finished by powder coating or polishing.

They can be fitted with several mounting options; for example they can be fixed flush or spaced in a number of ways for a three dimensional look.

Built Up Metal LettersBuilt-up letter

With built up lettering, we continue with our flat cut letter and hand-form and fabricate each edge. This creates water-tight ‘returns’ to the shape, forming a complete three-dimensional letter.

Neon backlit letterBuilt up metal lettering can accommodate LEDs or neon to create subtle or dramatic lighting effects. We refer to the back-lighting of letters as “Halo” illumination. To weatherproof the lettering for the use of electrics, we also CNC cut a “back-tray” from clear perspex which is identical to the face to allow for a snug fit.
There are certain size restrictions with building returns and back-lighting, simply due to space constraints within the letter. For example, we would usually recommend a minimum internal working area of 75mm. You can discuss your requirements with a Jonsigns representative by calling us direct on (0191) 478 2200.

Rim and Return Lettering

“Rim & return” is a style of lettering whereby the face panel is cut with an additional inline. The remaining space is filled with an acrylic panel. This can be illuminated from within, to achieve a flawless glowing letter face. It is also possible to halo illuminate the letter for enhanced effect. The metalwork in this style of lettering can be finished (powder coated/polished) just like any other.
