What is Tiny Lives?

The neonatal Unit at the Royal Victoria Infirmary, Newcastle upon Tyne is the Regional Centre for premature and ill newborn babies and specialise in saving babies lives. Every year, 600 premature or ill newborn babies from across the region are admitted to the hospital, with up to 30 babies being looked after at any one time. Many of these tiny babies can be extremely ill or require intensive care.

Tiny Lives was set up to support the Newcastle Neonatal Service by helping raise funds. The intensive care for these tiny babies needs around 100 nurses and 20 doctors all of whom need particular skills and specialist training.

Objectives

Tiny Lives help to provide specialist training which is required to ensure the staff are kept fully up to date with the latest advances, expensive equipment to ensure babies have the best possible chance of recovery, a more homely environment, travel costs for parents, specialist research projects- seeking to improve care in the future.
